Joseph Angelo Marotta Ii

November 18, 1935 — November 7, 2018

Joseph A. Marotta II, age 82, of Alpena passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7th, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.

On November 18th, 1935, Joseph was born to the late Joseph and Edna (Derosier) Marotta of Worcester, Massachusetts. He enlisted in the United States Air Force serving honorably in Yakota, Japan. Upon his completion of an 8 year military commitment he was employed for Abitibi on the assembly line for over 25 years.

A few of his loves included baseball and bowling. He amasssed several 300 game titles. In baseball, "smoking Joe" teased professional scouts with the possibility of signing him. Later, he turned his passion into coaching. He could often be found preparing the diamond for safe competition. Joseph was a selfless, caring and compassionate man who never wanted to be in the spotlight. His love for his children, grandchildren, family and friends was shown through the passion he had for photography, always behind the camera and rarely in front of it. He will be deeply missed

He is survived by his daughter Krystal Marotta of Alpena, MI; two sons: Joseph Marotta III of Alpena, MI and David Bond of West Palm Beach, FL; 10 grandchildren: Logan, Blake, Michael, Lisa, Mary, Scott, Isaiah, Aja, Joseph IV, and Jala; two brothers: Robert (Anna Mae) Marotta of Alpena, MI; Michael Marotta of West Brookfield, MA; two sisters: Shirley Marotta of MA and Annmarie Rondeau of Saginaw, MI; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother: John O'Connor and three sisters: Ethel Cormier, Clara Linquest, and Larraine Scott.

Per his wishes Joseph was taken from the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation. Family and friends will gather at Holy Cross Cemetery for a Committal  Service on Monday, July 15, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496.
