Marilyn D. Colby

August 1, 1928 — February 8, 2021

         Marilyn D. Colby, age 92, of Alpena passed away peacefully at Mid-Michigan Medical Center of Alpena on Monday, February 8, 2021.

          On August 1, 1928, Marilyn was born in Alpena, Michigan to the late George Edward "Ned" and Louise (Jones) Thompson. She married Warren Colby (a Local Sports Figure) on August 14, 1946, at Grace Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 1, 1999. Marilyn worked for the Federal Government as a Military Test Administrator. She had a passion for rescuing cats.

          She is survived by her daughter Meredith Smith of Alpena, MI; two sisters-in-law Evagene Thompson of Alpena, MI and Carolyn Colby of Boston, Mass; one brother-in-law: Gene Colby of Alpena, MI; along with many nieces and nephews and two special friends: Carl Gardner and Harriett Kelm both of Alpena, MI.

          Marilyn was preceded in death by one brother: George "Dike" Thompson. 

          Per her wishes she has been taken from the Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home for cremation.

     A Celebration of Marilyn's Life will be held Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Starlight Park Pavilion in Alpena, Michigan beginning at 2:00 p.m.

          Inurnment: Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Alpena, Michigan

          In lieu of flowers memorials may be addressed to the Alpena County Sherriff Animal Control (320 Johnson Street; Alpena, MI 49707); Alpena Parkinson's Support Group through the First Methodist Church in Alpena or the N.E. MI Trap and Neuter Return (c/o Edna Sorenson: 305 Partridge Avenue; Alpena, MI 49707)
