Raymond L. Compeau, age 89, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2020, at home surrounded by his family.
On January 9, 1931, Raymond was born in Alpena, Michigan to the late Arthur and Anna (Landry) Compeau. Raymond served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 - 1954. After returning home from the war he married Donna LeTourneau on December 11, 1954, at St. Anne Catholic Church. He worked for Grand Rapids Sash and Door Company, later for Snap-On Tools retiring in 1992. Raymond was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish, Disabled Veterans, D.A.V., V.F.W. Post 2496, Alpena Moose Lodge, and the Alpena Snowmobile Club for 50 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Donna and their four children: Kathy (Charles) Sobczak of Ossineke, MI; Karen (Matthew) McGrath of Redlands, CA; Kenneth (Desiree) Compeau of Ossineke, MI; and Ronald Compeau of Alpena, MI; six grandchildren: Courtney (Scott) Gagnon, Collin and Cailin McGrath, Gary (Mollie) Compeau, Greg (Kaylie) Compeau, and Rachelle (Tom) Sherer; eleven great-grandchildren: Landen, Dillan, Marleigh, Max, Emma, Wyatt, Nolan, Lincoln, Connor, Hannah, and Hunter; one brother: Gerald (Audrey) Compeau of Alpena, MI; along with several nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Ashley Sobczak -Hann and one brother-in-law: Jerry LeTourneau.
Family and friends will gather for memorial visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Sunday, February 2, 2020, from 2 pm until 4 pm, with Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496, beginning at 3 pm. Memorial visitation will continue on Monday, February 3, 2020, at St. Anne Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 11 am until the Memorial Service begins at 12 pm with Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating.
