Robert L. Kuchnicki, age 83, of Alpena, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, surrounded by his family at home.
On May 13, 1936, Robert was born to the late Edwin and Cecilia (Misiak) Kuchnicki in Alpena, Michigan. He married Joann Smith on May 3, 1958, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Herron, MI. Robert worked for Huron Portland, National Gypsum and later Lafarge for 40 plus years retiring in 2001. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending his time refereeing hockey and trained black Labrador retriever dogs, and was one of the best throughout the central U.S. and Canada, while training Labs he won a National Championship and many awards.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Joann; their two daughters: Susan (Thomas) Bustillos and Laurie Copping (Scott) of both of Alpena, MI; 7 grandchildren: Johnnie Dziuba, Jessica Dziuba, Joshua (Kari) Bustillos, Alison Nunez (Chase), Kelsie Copping (Jason), Katelyn (Robert) Berry, and Brianna (Doug) Snow; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters Barbara (Lawrence) Hier and Janet (Michael) Peirce both of Alpena, MI; along with several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by one daughter: Peggy Lynn Kuchnicki-Dziuba, one son Brian Kuchnicki and one son-in-law: Kim Copping.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Friday, November 22, 2019, from 2 pm until 8 pm, with a Parish Prayer Service beginning at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial begins with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating.
