Wayne Arthur Benoit, age 84, of Alpena passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
On August 12, 1936, Wayne was born to the late Edward and Malvena (St. Charles) Benoit in Alpena, Michigan. He served in the United States Army. On January 9, 1960, Wayne married Miriam Behnke at St. Anne Catholic Church; they were blessed with 58 years until Miriam passed away on June 19, 2018. Wayne was a UPS Driver for 27 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #529: a prior Grand Knight, served on the Color Guard and was in the Third and Fourth degree. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie #1231 and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Wayne enjoyed spending his time golfing, fishing, helping others and with his family.
He is survived by his three children: Peggy (Tom) Kolnowski of Austin, TX; Randy (Lori) Benoit and Linda (Wayne) Mischloney both of Alpena, MI; 9 grandchildren: Erin Kolnowski, Brendon (Kathyrn) Kolnowski, Afton (Matt) Street, Amber Benoit, Danny (Alicia) Bouchard, Emma (Tom) Woloszyk, Heidi (Mike) Romanowski, Rachel (Erik) Wong and Jesse (Jaclyn) Mischloney; 9 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Eli, Logan, Collin, Adriana, Gracelynn, Riley, Kaden and Sawyer.
Wayne was preceded in death by his brother: Edward Benoit II.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm; with the Knights of Columbus Color Guard from 6: 00pm until the 7:00 pm Third Degree presentation of the Mass and Fourth Degree Chalice Presentation begins at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 11:00 am until the Funeral Service begins at 12:00 pm with Fr. James Fitzpatrick officiating.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery following the service with Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Huron Humane Society.
