Wilford 'Bill' Platt

U.S. VeteranWilford "Bill" Platt, age 97, of Alpena, passed away at U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI on Saturday, September 24, 2016.
Bill was born on February 25, 1919, to the late Theodore and Ethel (Thevo) Platt in Detroit, MI. On October 30, 1965 he married Norma Hecox in Detroit, MI. She preceded him in death on March 2, 1989. Bill worked as a truck driver for Chrysler Corporation in Detroit for 32 years before retiring in 1972. He served in the United States Army during WWII, and was a member of the Red Arrow Division and would be considered one of the Ghost Mountain Boys.
He is survived by his two children: Everett (Nancy) Platt of Alpena, MI; and Kathleen (Mel) Jones of Alpena, MI; step-daughter: Patricia (Jim) Gerard of New Hudson, MI. His five grandchildren: Karen Hicks, William (Michelle) Platt, Daniel (Vickie) Clark, Jennifer (Mark) Fitzhenry, Ryan (Ashley) Clark, and Nine great-grandchildren: Danny, Paul, and Jonah Clark, Brianna, Rosalie, Mark, Michael Nola, and Sean Fitzhenry, Caitlin, and William James Platt, Cynthia Clark, Patrick and Daniel Hicks and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his sister Florence Gilbert.
Family and friends will gather for visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 12 noon until 2pm Funeral Service begins with Pastor Richard George officiating, followed by Full Military Honors accorded by the V.F.W. Post 2496.
Internment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery.
