William Richard Schmanski

January 15, 1942 — April 22, 2022

William Richard Schmanski, 80, of Alpena passed away Friday, April 22, in Mio, Michigan traveling home from his winter reprieve in Florida. Bill was born January 15, 1942 in Alpena to the late Frank and Theresa (Przybylla) Schmanski. He was the youngest of seven children. He served in the United States Army, and fulfilled a tour of duty in Korea. Bill retired from the State of Michigan Highway Department.

Surviving is his special friend of 21 years, Durenda Pake, and one brother Thomas. Bill and Durenda enjoyed six winters in Florida; traveling and walking along the beach. He loved to take long drives and chat in the car. Bill especially loved spending time with Durenda’s daughter’s family, Stacy and Eric Zbytowski; and children Jacob, Kelana, and Zachary who held a special place in his heart. He was a bowler and a terrific handyman and carpenter.

Bill was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Wolosyzk, Elizabeth (Bessie) Valentine, and Joan Copeland. Also, two brothers, Donald and Lawrence. Cremation arrangements have been made by the Karpus Hunter & Ross Funeral Home.
